Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
