An extensive 60-day journey around the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the ship staff became aware the passenger was missing.

A large-scale hunt discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that guests and staff on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" banning any new passengers from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The vessel originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to join the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a walking organization.

"Based on limited information we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of attention and common sense," she stated.

She continued that she desired the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have protected Mother's existence".
